“Basic Judaism”
A Course for Jews and Non-Jews

An overview of the Bible, Shabbat ritual and observances, how observe kashrut (keeping kosher), and the Jewish laws of death and mourning.  Other topics in this “how-to” course include Jewish life cycle events and the sources of Jewish holiday festivities.  The program includes a Shabbat celebration with a home-based Shabbat dinner.

The course is taught by Rabbi Bernice Weiss, founder and director of the Washington Institute for Conversion and the Study of Judaism.  Rabbi Weiss is the author of Converting to Judaism — Choosing to be Chosen: Personal Stories (October 2000).
